2018 Volkswagen Golf R Wagon pricing released

Volkswagen wheels out new special editions and wagon for its Golf R range

Volkswagen Australia has released pricing and specification details for its remaining Golf R 7.5 range.

Weeks after the regular hatch line-up was detailed, Australian stakeholders have revealed the Golf R Wagon will be priced from $57,490 (plus on-road costs) when it lands in showrooms in late January, 2018.

The wagon’s 213kW/380Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine will be mated standard with a seven-speed DSG automatic, in effect making the wagon $2000 dearer than the equivalent Golf R DSG hatch. There is no talk of a manual Golf R wagon at this point in time.

The wagon will share many of the same features as its Golf R hatch sibling, including a 9.2-inch centre screen with sat-nav, gesture control, Vienna leather-appointed seats (driver’s seat electric), tinted windows, 19-inch alloy wheels, LED head lights and tail lights, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry and start, front and rear parking sensors and reversing camera.

Standard safety kit on the wagon comprises seven airbags, multi-collision and brake and front assist with city emergency braking (low speed autonomous emergency braking).
The local distributor has also confirmed pricing for the Golf R Wolfsburg Edition. Available in hatch and wagon form from August, the Wolfsburg allocation is strictly limited to 300 cars in each shape.

The Wolfsburg Edition hatchback will be priced from $57,990 (plus on-road costs), while the Wagon will be priced from $59,990 (plus on-road costs), both mated standard with a seven-speed DSG automatic.

The Wolfsburg differentiates itself from the regular Golf R with grey metallic 19-inch alloy wheels, carbon fibre wing mirrors, ‘carbon’ Nappa leather-appointed upholstery, a 400W sound system, adaptive cruise control, lane assist, blind spot monitoring with rear-cross traffic alert and dynamic light assist.

The Wolfsburg Edition carries over the regular model’s 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine outputs.

Volkswagen has also announced several optional packages allowing customers to upgrade and personalise their vehicles at an added cost.
