FCA Australia has announced an October 1 on-sale date for the mildly upgraded Alfa Giulietta unveiled earlier this year in Geneva.
In Australia, the range has been reduced to three levels, Giulietta Super, Super TCT and Veloce – reviving Alfa Romeo nomenclature from the past.
Rising in price by $900 to $29,900, the new entry-level variant is the Giulietta Super, essentially replacing the Giulietta Progression and boasting a 110kW/250Nm version of the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder that produced just 88kW and 215Nm in the Giulietta Progression. Like the earlier variant, the Giulietta Super runs a six-speed manual transmission. The added engine output reduces the 0-100km/h time from 9.4 to 8.2 seconds, yet fuel consumption has been reduced from 6.4 to 5.5L/100km.
Among the standard features fitted at this level are 16-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, rear parking sensors, leather-bound steering wheel and Uconnect five-inch infotainment touch screen.
Coming down in price by $100 to $34,900 is the Giulietta Super TCT, which replaces the Giulietta Distinctive with the TCT (twin-clutch transmission). Power and torque – 125kW and 250Nm – are the same for the successor from its version of the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder, but fuel consumption is down slightly from 5.1 to 4.9L/100km and the 0-100km/h time has risen marginally from 7.6 to 7.7 seconds.
Alloy wheels are now 17-inch diameter, rather than the 16-inch wheels previously fitted. Over the Giulietta Super (manual), the TCT version comes with front parking sensors and a 6.5-inch Uconnect touch screen.
At $41,900 the Giulietta Veloce is $100 lower in price than the Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde, but is powered by the same 177kW/340Nm 1.75-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder, driving through a six-speed TCT. Also boasting the same 0-100km/h time of six seconds, the Giulietta Veloce is claimed to be slightly more economical – down from 7.0L/100km combined to 6.8.
Standard features fitted in addition to those of the Giulietta Super TCT include 18-inch alloys, leather/Alcantara seats, launch control, red Brembo brake callipers (front), sports suspension, bi-xenon headlights, a flat-bottomed steering wheel and sports pedals.
The new cars can be distinguished by the new honeycomb grille, piano-black bumper inserts (with red highlights for sporty models), revised headlights, redesigned fog light bezels, new alloy-wheel designs and new exhaust tail pipes.
