Chery has revealed its all-new FV2030 concept that’s said to preview a new production car, a competitor for Mazda’s new CX-4 SUV.
Designed to shock show goers with its wild and outlandish styling, the FV2030 was unveiled by the Chinese car maker to gauge the appetite for a production version.
Sporting a smooth silhouette with a curved roofline, pumped wheel-arches and a stylised front fascia featuring sleek, slim-line LED headlights, the overall design was lauded as one of a new breed of original designs at the Beijing motor show - proof of the growing confidence of the domestic car makers.
With positive feedback, Chery is expected to add two doors and tweak the concept to be a more traditional four-seat coupe-SUV, but offered with a pure-electric powertrain, as well as more traditional petrol engines.
It’s not known when we can expect to see a production version of the FV2030, but with development schedules a fraction of those compared to Japanese or European manufacturers it could go on sale in China as soon as 2018.
Sadly, for those Australian buyers in the market for a striking SUV it is unlikely we’ll see it on sale here any time soon following Chery’s decision to effectively stop importing cars Down Under.
