Mercedes-Benz has introduced a new cut-price front-wheel drive variant to its GLA-Class small SUV range in Australia.
The GLA 180 starts from $42,900 plus on-road costs and is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine generating the same 90kW/200Nm outputs as the recently-updated A 180.
It claims combined fuel consumption of only 5.7L/100km -- 0.1L/100km better than the A 180. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission is the sole gearbox option.
Alongside the A 180, the GLA 180 features Apple CarPlay integration as standard. It rides on 18-inch alloy wheels and uses fixed bi-xenon headlinghts.
Parking sensors are also standard, as is Garmin satellite-navigation, blind-spot assist and keyless start. It offers up to 1200kg of braked towing capacity, and doesn’t skimp on safety with front and side airbags for the driver and front passenger, along with one for the driver’s knees and side windows.
Pricing for this entry-point model matches that of the Audi Q3 1.4 TFSI S tronic, which generates more grunt (110kW) but uses more fuel (5.9L/100km).
The GLA 180’s introduction coincides with new model-year pricing updates for the GLA range.
Opt for the 2.1-litre diesel-powered 2WD GLA 200 CDI and you will now part with $48,900 before on-road costs are added – up from $48,300.
The turbocharged four-cylinder 2.0-litre petrol-propelled GLA 250 remains at the $59,900 (plus on-roads) price it moved to in September -- up from $58,600 earlier in the year.
Finally the hero-spec Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 sits at $83,900 plus on-road costs, following a September price hike that saw it jump from $80,040.
