The long arm of the law just got a whole lot more menacing.
The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, already touted as the world’s fastest and most powerful rear-drive production car, has been re-imagined in law enforcement livery this week.
The images give the physics-defying Demon even more reason to concern everyday citizens. The work of rendering artist Aksyonov Nikita, they show the 626kW machine resplendent in full police garb, including hub-caps, sirens, lights and paint work. While the renderings aren’t likely to materialise on the road, there’s no doubt the Demon would be an extremely handy asset in a police pursuit.
It packs 626kW (840hp) from a development of the SRT Hellcat’s supercharged 6.2-litre V8 – enough to propel it to 100km/h in sizzling 2.3 seconds and over the standing-quarter in just 9.65sec.
Dodge also claims that, thanks to its new ‘torque reserve launch system’, the Demon can lift its front wheels off the deck for three feet after take-off, and deliver 1.8g of initial acceleration – the highest ever for a road-legal production car.Production of the limited-edition 2018 Challenger SRT Demon begins by August, and just 3300 will be built for North America and Canada this year, with all customers receiving a full-day session at the Bob Bondurant School of High-performance Driving.
While a police pursuit edition is unlikely – some publications called for the Demon to be banned from the road – it provides some food for thought. This would probably be the only instance of the Demon appearing in your rear-view mirror.
