Faster Lamborghini Aventador S in the works

Italian supercar-maker trademarks 'Aventador S' in EU ahead of next year's facelift

Lamborghini is set to launch a faster version of its flagship V12 supercar following revelations it has filed an application to have the name 'Aventador S' trademarked in Europe.

First introduced to the Miura back in 1968 and used on subsequent Lamborghini models, the 'S' historically introduced more power over the standard model.

According to Autoguide.com, the trademark was filed on November 18 along with an image of the new badge the Aventador S will wear.

Likely to be unveiled at the Geneva motor show in March 2017, the new S model will be introduced as part of the supercar's midlife tweaks.

Sitting above the standard car, but below the range-topping SV model, it's thought the Aventador S will come with regular car’s 6.5-litre V12 but with power increased by at least 20kW more than the base model. That means total power should be around 535kW/690Nm.

To help differentiate itself from the standard Aventador, the S is expected to borrow styling cues from its hard-core SV sibling. This should include a more aggressive aero, a large new wing and deep front splitter.

It's not likely the upgrades will see any big mechanical changes to the old-school supercar that was first introduced back in 2011.
