FCA recalls 23,000 Jeeps

Australian-specification Patriot and Compass dragged into global recall

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Australia has recalled 23,000 Jeep Patriot and Compass models built between 2010 and 2014, as well as Dodge Caliber models built between 2010 and 2012.

FCA says the fault is caused by flawed design of the wiring for the airbag and seatbelt control module. Due to this fault, the vehicle's airbag may not deploy and the vehicle's seatbelt may not tighten in the event of a front-on crash.

The recall has affected 1.9 million cars globally and Fiat Chrysler is mindful that the defects may have been related to three deaths and five injuries. It's more bad news on top of the US$70 million fine imposed against FCA by America's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) last year.

FCA Australia will be contacting owners and replacing the faulty components of the vehicles affected at no cost to the customer.

Anyone concerned their vehicle is affected by the fault should contact Fiat Chrysler Australia.
