General Motors' European arm, Opel, has announced that it will pull the drapes off a comprehensively facelifted Mokka at the Geneva motor show.
Set to go on sale late this year, the Mokka, which is effectively rebadged Down Under as the Holden Trax, will be renamed in Europe the Mokka X. In future, all Opel and Vauxhall SUVs will carry the ‘X’ name.
In the flesh, the Mocca X receives the new family look introduced with the new European Astra hatch. That means the small SUV gains a wing-shaped grille and ‘double-wing’ LED daytime running lamps.
At the rear of the car there’s a pair of new tail-lights with the option of full LED lamps.
Two new colours, ‘Amber Orange’ and ‘Lava Red’ are also introduced to the range.
Inside, the Mokka, Opel claims, gets a completely new dashboard that again draws inspiration from the Euro Astra. The centre stack, meanwhile, now includes either a 7.0- or 8.0-inch all-new touch-screen infotainment system.
Under the bonnet a new 112kW 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine features direct-injection. The new engine can be combined with an equally new six-speed automatic that, together, can average 6.6L/100km.
The Mokka X also will come with a new adaptive on-demand all-wheel drive system that in normal conditions is 100 per cent front-wheel drive, until slip is detected and the system can direct 50 per cent of torque towards the rear for added traction.
New safety tech also becomes available following on the Mokka X with new adaptive LED headlights becoming an option along with a new front camera that can read road signs and warn of an impending collision.
Finally the Mokka X’s new infotainment system will include GM’s OnStar and connect with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. More information is expected, including if and when we’ll see an updated Trax Down Under, following the reveal on March 1.
