GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: Pininfarina H2 Speed unveiled

Post Indian takeover, Italian style house shows off hydrogen fuel cell-powered race car

Italian styling house Pininfarina has shown off its first all-new concept since it was purchased by Indian giant, Mahindra.

Called the H2 Speed, the new concept was labelled as a blend of a prototype sports car racer and a production supercar.

Described as a collaboration between the famous Italian design house and Swiss motorsport innovators GreenGT, the new concept is said to herald the relaunch of Pininfarina.

The first hydrogen-powered high performance track car in the world, says Pininfarina, H2 Speed generates its electricity from “pioneering lightweight fuel cells” and is claimed to have a 300km/h top speed.

The body design, meanwhile, has been optimised for maximum downforce.

The twin-motor H2 Speed has 375kW at its disposal and does without any conventional gearbox. Instead there’s direct drive to the rear-wheels, with software-controlled torque vectoring to boost traction.

Based around a carbon-fibre monocoque, the H2 has two exposed large hydrogen tanks that can be seen from the side. Both tanks can be completely filled in less than three minutes, Pininfarina claims.
