HSV announces limited-edition trio

Black, Track and SV editions to sing HSV's LS3 V8 swansong

To celebrate the cessation of its LS3-powered range – which will fail to meet stricter Euro 5 emissions regulations from November 1 – HSV has announced the release of three limited-edition models.

The first, dubbed 'SV Black', will begin production from June. Based on the Maloo R8 and ClubSport R8, the SV Black editions will be limited to 102 and 368 units respectively in Australia, with New Zealand receiving just two and 18 units respectively.

Priced from $62,990 (plus on-road costs, LSA-powered variants start from $76,990) for the six-speed manual Maloo R8 SV Black and $65,990 for the ClubSport R8 SV Black manual (plus ORCs, LSA-powered variants start from $80,990), the individually numbered models are each powered HSV's 340kW normally-aspirated 6.2-litre LS3 Generation IV all-alloy V8. Six-speed automatic variants attract a $2500 premium.

SV Black variants are distinguished by their LSA-inspired frontal treatment, 20-inch satin black alloys, HSV Performance body design, black accenting and shadow-chrome exhaust outlets. Ute models receive an HSV hard tonneau cover and sail plane, while the sedan adds an HSV Lo-line rear spoiler in satin graphite.

Both SV Black variants are further equipped with HSV Performance suspension, bi-modal exhaust system and four-piston AP Racing forged callipers in gloss black. Inside, the models add driver-preference instruments, sat-nav, reversing camera, dual-zone climate-control, nine-speaker BOSE audio system (six-speaker for ute) and sports bucket seats.

From September production – and to coincide with the model's 20th anniversary – the second of HSV's limited-edition models will be based on the long-wheelbase Grange.

Limited to just 50 models locally, and with none allocated to NZ, the individually numbered Grange SV will be priced from $86,990 (plus ORCs, pricing unchanged).

Like the SV Black models, the Grange SV is powered by HSV's 340kW normally-aspirated 6.2-litre LS3 Gen 4 all-alloy V8. It is paired exclusively to a six-speed automatic transmission.

Key standard features for the Grange SV include HSV's Magnetic Ride Control (MRC) suspension, 20-inch SV Rapier alloys in gloss black, bi-modal exhaust and four-pot AP Racing forged callipers.

The model also comes with black accenting and shadow-chrome exhaust outlets, and inside driver-preference instruments, sat-nav, dual-zone climate, nine-speaker BOSE audio system with DVD player, and luxury seats in Onyx leather trim with front-seat memory function and heaters.

Finally, HSV's pinnacle R8 model will be the ClubSport R8 Track Edition. Also powered by HSV's 340kW 6.2-litre LS3 atmo V8, the individually-numbered Track Edition is said to leverage HSV's entire racing heritage, delivering a track-focussed model for the enthusiast.

Priced from $68,990 (plus ORCs) for the six-speed manual version and ($71,490 plus ORCs), the ClubSport R8 Track Edition will begin production from September; and is limited to just 156 units in Australia (with six allocated to New Zealand).

ClubSport R8 Track Edition 002

The ClubSport R8 Track Edition is equipped with those features listed for the ClubSport R8 SV Black but adds 'enhanced' HSV Performance suspension, six-piston AP Racing callipers in yellow, 20-inch Blade forged alloy wheels in Dark Stainless, Hyperflow Performance Spoiler and suede-wrapped Sports Profile steering wheel.

It's expected HSV will announce a similar limited-edition program for its LSA-powered models in the lead-up to the end of Commodore production in late 2017. Watch this space!
