Jaguar upgrades F-TYPE

New looks, latest infotainment, GoPro ReRun app and 400 SPORT launch edition part of revised 18MY range

Jaguar has revealed the first facelift for its F-TYPE sports car since its launch in 2012 and it's due on sale in Australia from June.

The mild midlife '18MY' makeover is headlined by fresh cosmetics, more equipment including upgraded infotainment systems and an expanded model range, although local pricing is yet to be announced.

The British brand has also developed a ReRun app that can incorporate real-time car vehicle data — including speed, throttle position, gear selection, braking force and g-force — into videos shot with GoPro’s range of action cameras.

There's also an exclusive 400 SPORT launch edition, and an addition to the permanent F-TYPE range — the R-Dynamic.

Available only for one model year, the 400 SPORT Coupe and Convertible features a retuned (294kW/460Nm) version of the company’s 3.0-litre supercharged V6, Configurable Dynamics system, Dark Satin Grey 20-inch alloy wheels, Super Performance brakes, yellow contrast interior stitching and badging and Indus Silver, Santorini Black and Yulong White metallic paint colours.

The R-Dynamic trim line can be specified with either the (carryover) 250kW and 280kW versions of blown V6 and includes either 19- or 20-inch alloy wheels and gloss-black air intakes, front splitter, bonnet vents, rear diffuser and side sills.

Visual changes to the standard F-TYPE Coupe and Convertible models are limited to a mildly revised front bumper and tail-light graphics, upgraded interior trims and new 8kg-lighter front seats with a die-cast magnesium alloy frame, more supportive bolsters and more travel.

There's also the availability of new adaptive full-LED headlights and Jaguar's latest Touch Pro infotainment system with 8.0-inch touch-screen, 60GB of SSD storage, 4G internet connectivity and 10-speaker Meridian sound (12 speakers and surround sound for the premium version).

Like the existing range, which is priced from $119,545, the 18MY F-TYPE Coupe and Convertible line-up will continue to open with a 250kW/450Nm 3.0-litre supercharged V6 driving the rear wheels via a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission.

Then there's the 280kW/460Nm version of the same engine, which can be combined with a six-speed manual and rear-wheel drive, or an eight-speed automatic and RWD or AWD.

The limited-edition 400 SPORT Coupe and Convertible is auto-only but available with both RWD and AWD, while the F-TYPE R and SVR Coupe and Convertible continue with their respective 405kW/680Nm and 423kW/700Nm 5.0-litre supercharged V8 auto AWD layouts.

"Great sports car design is about proportion and purity," said Jaguar design director Ian Callum. "The most challenging element of the process for designers is to focus on and maintain an exciting silhouette that promises performance.

"For the 2018 model year F-TYPE, we looked at how we could fine-tune key details to deliver even more clarity of purpose in the overall design – for the driver, the passenger and onlookers.”
