An all-singing, all-dancing celebration of the high performance 'Vette --reviving the ZR1 moniker applied to the DOHC C4 model from the eighties -- can be expected to lift the lid on the supercharged LS9 engine, a force-fed version of the 6.2-litre LS3 V8.
In the meantime, enthusiast website 'Jalopnik.com', has published a photo of the new engine, allegedly leaked from official sources.
We've published the photo here, with a photo of the naturally aspirated LS3 engine for comparison. As Jalopnik pointed out, the forced induction engine has blue accents on the engine cover, in keeping with the 'Blue Devil' name associated earlier with the Corvette ZR1.
The engine is expected to feature "an integrated twin intercooler" system and estimated power could be in the vicinity of 650HP (485kW).
If the LS3 ends up powering future HSV models, there's also the possibility of the LS9 making its way into a premium HSV model. We've already covered the Cadillac CTS which is likely to be powered by the LS9, so it doesn't appear as if GM will reserve this engine for the Corvette alone.
