MINI Ray introduced at entry-level point

New variant replaces MINI One in the range, priced from below $30K driveaway

An affordable new variant joins the local MINI range with effect from August, priced from $29,000 for the three-door model, including on-road costs.

Named the MINI Ray, the new model replaces the MINI One in the range, and is powered by the same 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol three-cylinder engine producing 75kW and 180Nm. Combined-cycle fuel consumption is 4.9L/100km, or 5.0L/100km with the optional six-speed automatic transmission.

The importer has launched the new level of trim in both body styles – three and five-door hatches – with six-speed manual as standard. Opting for the automatic transmission pushes up the price by $2500. All prices are inclusive of on-road costs.

Active safety features comprise stability/traction control, an electronic differential lock, dynamic stability control, electronic brake force distribution, brake assist and cornering brake control.

Standard features for the MINI Ray include 15-inch wheels, hands-free Bluetooth with USB porting, heated and electrically-adjustable mirrors, six airbags and rear park distance control.

MINI is offering the new variants with dress-up accessories and options like solid Pepper White or metallic Midnight Black paint colours (both at no extra cost), plus clear indicator lenses, specific mirror covers, bonnet stripes, side scuttles and an exclusive Ray badge.

Between 2011 and 2014 the base-grade variants in the range were named MINI Ray, but after 2014 they were replaced by the MINI One in the current generation (F56) series. Now the name has reverted once more.

"The MINI Ray marks the entry to the brand and delivers design, style and luxury you would expect from a MINI," said MINI Australia General Manager, Tony Sesto.

"At only $29,000 driveaway, it also represents strong value, while a selected range of MINI Accessories enhancements offer the purchaser a chance to personalise, as per MINI tradition."

Driveaway prices for the MINI Ray are as follows:
Three-door manual – $29,000
Three-door auto – $31,500
Five-door manual – $30,500
Five-door auto – $33,000
