Nissan concepts include new Godzilla

Nissan will unveil a veritable barrage of concepts at this month's Tokyo motor show -- none more significant than a prototype of the next GT-R (aka Godzilla).

The GT-R Proto is said to show the design direction of the next turbo AWD supercar, without going into too many specifics. Rumours regarding the next GT-R have proliferated since the demise of the R34 in 2002, but the company has revealed no technical information on the next-gen GT-R. However, it is widely believed the car will gain twin-turbo V6 power in lieu of the previous force-fed in-line six.

Nissan has admitted that the new GT-R will be designed from the outset as a coupe (rather than derived from a sedan) and that it will retain the trademark quartet of circular tail-lights.

Visually, there are some carryover clues from the R34, such as the single centre air intake, but the overall look is far more aggressive.

Nissan's Tokyo stand will also be graced by the Pivo concept, which looks for all the world like a goldfish bowl on wheels. It's described as a "user-friendly three-seater commuter with future electric powertrain technologies", and its USP is a cabin that can be rotated through 360 degrees, eliminating the need to reverse... ever. All you do is pivot the cabin and drive straight out.

It also features "See-through Pillars" and an "Around View Monitor" to help reduce blind spots. The electric powertrain matches the Nissan-developed compact lithium-ion battery and Super Motor to achieve zero emissions.

Altogether more conventional is the Foria, a compact sports coupe with rear-wheel drive that may make it to mass production. The suave pillarless 4350mm coupe has suicide-type back doors and paddle-shift transmission.

Another Tokyo show special is the Amenio people-mover, a Toyota Tarago-esque vehicle that's said to embody Nissan's "Modern Living" concept. It's claimed to offer a "living-room-like" interior and advanced telematics, including "Earth-browsing" and "Space-browsing" capabilities (whatever that means).

Nissan's Tokyo show line-up will be rounded off by the Note, which is perhaps the ultimate "runabout", given that it was inspired by Adidas. It has a "Wearable" interior and exterior whereby users can change the surface treatment on the front/rear bumpers and interior fabrics and rubber materials used on dashboard, door trim, and so forth.

Wonder if it offers any remedies for foot odour?
