Limited edition Aurion Touring SE

Will Toyota's added-value Aurion place Commodore Lumina in the shade?

Toyota has introduced an Aurion with extra value, reviving an old name in the process.

Named the Aurion Touring SE, the limited edition model is fitted with parking sensors (front and rear), a six-disc CD changer, premium instrumentation with trip computer, dual-zone climate control, 16-inch alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, leather-bound steering wheel and leather-trimmed gear shift knob.

These features are in addition to the standard specification of the Aurion AT-X on which the Touring SE model is based.

'Touring' was the 'Sportivo'-style level of trim in the MCV20 V6 Camry range. It was a low-volume model, but more for its market positioning than being a 'value-packed' limited batch model.

Following Holden's lead with the Commodore Lumina (more here), the Aurion Touring SE will sell on the strength of the extra features, without detriment to profitability or the vehicle's long term resale value.

At a price of $34,990, the Aurion Touring SE threatens to 'out-load' the Lumina. For the buyer, it will boil down to whether 18-inch alloys and a $2000 saving (Holden) are more important than sophisticated aircon, audio, front parking sensors, some leather trim and the Aurion's standard six-speed auto.
