JEEP WRANGLER

Taking a bit of a liberty, Jeep has knocked some rough corners off its hard-core offroader, the Wrangler

America's original supplier of off-road vehicles to the military has just made its legacy model a little more civilised.

For 2008, the Jeep Wrangler scores a host of new or improved features to maintain or even enhance the vehicle's appeal and general offroad ability.

Diesel models earn themselves a new CRD offroad group option, which comprises a rear axle differential lock, a 3.73:1 final drive ratio (Manual and Automatic) and an electronically-controlled, disconnecting front anti-roll bar.

Coupled to the automatic transmission, the 2.8-litre diesel engine sees torque lifted from 410Nm to 460N. Torque for the manual diesel variants remains pegged at 410Nm.

Automatic vehicles (including those with the petrol V6) are now specified with a 3.73:1 final drive ratio, in lieu of the previous 4.10:1 ratio. This new ratio reduces NVH and fuel consumption.

All models are now fitted as standard with a tyre pressure warning light and 17-inch alloy wheels. Detonator Yellow (pictured) is a new addition to the upgraded model range's colour selection palette.

Wrangler Unlimited models are now fitted with an 85-litre fuel tank and the Dual Top feature is now standard for Rubicon and Rubicon Unlimited variants.
