Two very different Kia concepts are favoured to be built, based on the warm welcome the cars have received at different motor shows around the world.
According to Kia's Chief Design Officer, Peter Schreyer, the show cars – the Soul-based Trackster and the GT Concept – are garnering the sort of favourable comments from the public that should swing the argument in the direction of 'build it and they will come'. "I think those could be two very sporty cars if they make it to production, so I'm very optimistic..." Mr Schreyer told motoring.com.au in Paris last week, but he pulled up short of confirming the two cars will definitely go into production
"I cannot say, but the atmosphere is very positive at the moment. Those cars have travelled all over the world... to all kinds of motor shows..."
The Kia designer said that the two cars were tracking well, but the company needed to ensure that there was a business case to match the motor-show sentiment.
"The response is very positive; the feedback from the media and so on... so it needs to be calculated if it works..."
Neither car – nor any other design study – made an appearance on the Kia stand in Paris this year, and that may be taken as a sign in itself. Watch out for production-ready versions to put in an appearance at Detroit's North American International Auto Show in January.
