Four-door version of Opel’s swish hatchback surfaces prior to introduction at this year’s Paris motor show

Not a lot needs to be left to the imagination in these photos of the upcoming Opel Astra sedan snapped recently by spy photographers Carparazzi.

From the tapering roofline to the snub boot and curvy tail lights, the sedan appears to have the slightly frumpish, high-tailed rear common in four-door interpretations of established five-door hatchbacks.

While the front of the car is virtually identical to the current Astra hatch, the back end looks entirely more conventional, sporting what looks to be a version of the five-door’s tail lights set below a slightly be-spoilered boot lid.

The side window line aft of the doors is a little hard to judge, but it does appear the sedan will get a couple of quarter windows continuing the sweeping gutter line down into the lower C-pillar. The strong character line beginning half way up the front doors looks likely to continue through to the sedan’s tail lights in much the same fashion as the hatchback's.

The Opel Astra hatch and wagon are due to arrive in Australia this November, although there is no word yet about whether or not the sedan will make the cut down under. However, given the popularity of sedan configurations in Australia – as opposed to a general lack of interest in most parts of Europe - it should not be ruled out.

The Opel Astra sedan is expected to debut at this year’s Paris motor show that opens in late September.
