The new Ford Mustang is not the only big announcement being made in Sydney on Thursday December 5, 2013 -- Ferrari looks set to officially confirm Sydney Motorsport Park as the first Ferrari Racing Days venue in Australia.
Now that Ferrari is in control of distributing its cars in Australia, taking over from European Automotive Imports, the famous Italian supercar brand will bring out its big guns in Sydney in 2014, with everything from F1 cars and classic Ferraris to modern day road cars like the Enzo available for Ferrari customers to drive - and buy.
Ferrari has convened a media conference in Sydney on December 5 to talk about its plans for the massive Ferrari Festival, which is expected to attract tens of thousands of paying spectators as well to Sydney Motorsport Park.
That the media briefing is being attended by the New South Wales Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Hospitality and Racing, George Souris, suggests it's going to be one of the biggest motorsports events this side of the Australian F1 Grand Prix, and could involve government support.
Ferrari had also been negotiating with the Australian F1 Grand Prix to stage a round of the Ferrari 458 Challenge race series at the Albert Park street circuit in 2014, as it ramps up its local activities in a bid to sell more cars in Australia.
The recent Japanese Ferrari Racing Days event involved more racing infrastructure than the F1 and saw more than 1000 Ferraris attend.
Other vehicle series expected to be part of the 'money can't buy' event include F1 Cliente and XX Cliente programs, which give current Ferrari owners the chance to drive experimental and ex-F1 cars.
Ferrari Australasia CEO Herbert Appleroth previously told motoring.com.au that Ferrari Racing Days "are investments that really only the factory can bring".
"This is a concept that brings the Ferrari racing world to Australia, bringing the Formula One cars, bringing the 458 Challenge one-make series … it means the whole Ferrari experience coming to Australia.
"It is a huge undertaking," stated Appleroth.
