Foton releases single-cab Tunland

Chinese brand grooms fleet workhorse for local sale
Foton is still a relatively new name in the local market for light commercial vehicles. But the announcement of single-cab variants for its Tunland range couldn't come soon enough.
Introduced here 12 months after the Tunland dual-cab models, the single-cab Tunland offers 4x2 and 4x4 variants suitable for tradies and farmers, according to the distributor. As for the dual-cab models, the engine remains a Cummins 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel, featuring SOHC valvetrain, but a 16-valve head, and common-rail induction.
For 4x4 variants, the engine produces 360Nm and 120kW – the sort of output necessary for a vehicle boasting a 4.5-tonne GVM. Matched to the powerplant is the Getrag JC538 five-speed manual transmission, running through a Borg-Warner transfer case to a Dana limited-slip differential at the rear.
According to the distributor, FAA, the single-cab 4x4 Tunland uses fuel at the rate of 8.3L/100km in combined-cycle testing, with the 4x2 variant improving on that with a figure of 8.0L/100km. The 4x2 variant offers 280Nm and 96kW, driving through an Aisin-Tangshan five-speed manual transmission to the Dana LSD housed in the rear axle.
The new Tunland variants are expected to appeal to fleets for load-carrying volume. They reportedly feature the longest cab-to-axle length for larger payloads than the opposition, including the Ford Ranger/Mazda BT-50. Internal length for the optional XL accessory tray is 2.73m (2.583m for the standard tray) and the internal width is 1.805m for both.
Standard features for the single-cab Tunland variants run to air conditioning, cruise control, electric windows/mirrors, two-stage remote central locking, leather-bound multifunction steering wheel (cruise/audio/phone), Bluetooth connectivity, puddle lights and fold-in mirrors. Dual front airbags and four-channel anti-lock brakes are standard too.
The Tunland is sold through 25 dealers around the nation, with another five in talks with FAA for a franchise. To date, the brand has sold 160 units of the Tunland, despite zero advertising.
Driveaway pricing applies to the single-cab models: $24,990 (including ORC) for the 4x2 model, or $26,990 for the 4x4.
