The Lamborghini Gallardo's successor, rumoured to be called the Cabrera, will be one of the most anticipated car launches of 2014, and the first sketches of the new V10-powered car provides additional clues to the new design.
As part of a heist-inspired short-film teaser campaign, dubbed Hexagon Project, the first episode is called "The Plan" and follows three young Londoners who attempt to break into the Lamborghini factory in Sant'Agata. They want to be the first people on the planet to see the next-generation Lamborghini.
A brief sketch of what could be the new entry-level Lamborghini is shown early in the video, but little else is divulged. It shows a vehicle that takes inspiration from the Murcielago and Aventador cues and there's a touch of the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento about it too. The design appears similar to spy photos of the new Lambo already published on this website, too.
Spotted undergoing hot-weather testing, the spy photos suggest the car's design is production ready, despite the camouflage paint. The vehicle is most likely to make its debut at the 2014 Geneva motor show in March.
Little is know about the car's vital statistics, but the Lamborghini Cabrera is expected to be powered by a 5.2-litre V10 worth 441kW, or around 600 horsepower. The all-wheel drive supercar will ditch its maligned E-gear automatic transmission in favour of a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox and will outperform its predecessor.
Understood to be based on the same platform as the next-generation Audi R8, due in 2015, the Lamborghini Cabrera's structure will be comprised of carbon-fibre and aluminium. Lamborghini originally wanted an all-carbon chassis, but Audi overruled it to keep costs down.
