More show, same go: 300S

Chrysler adds a sheep in wolf's clothing to the 300 range

Like the look of Chrysler’s SRT-fettled 300s but don’t want the HEMI pricetag or fuel bills? Has Fiat Chrysler Group Australia (FCGA) got a deal for you.

This week, the local US-Italo brand group confirmed details of a tricked-up 300 model that has all the show of its SRT8 and Core V8 models but is powered by the standard 210kW/340Nm V6 powertrain. Enter the 300S...

Offically, FCGA claim the new 300 variant gets “new exterior styling and interior equipment” to “accentuate the flagship Chrysler’s ‘Imported from Detroit’ attitude and street-cred”. In practice you get a vehicle that looks very much like the $66,000 flagship 300 SRT8 for almost $20,000 less.

Key to the look of the 300S is the car’s 20-inch gloss black alloys and SRT8-sourced Goodyear Eagle F1 rubber. Then, up front, a black chrome grille with platinum surround, black headlamp bezels say ‘tough’, while body coloured door handles and side view mirrors anda boot lip spoiler add to the drama. “Black-accented” ‘300S’ and ‘Chrysler’ badges are also featured.

The interior features Piano Black and matte carbon-look detailing. The front sport seats and rear bench are heated and there is a no cost red leather option.

Sat nav and eight-speed auto (with paddles) are also standard, making the 300S remarkably well equipped given its $47,500 pricetag.

“Demand for Chrysler’s 300 range has never been greater, with sales of the second generation model outpacing even the original 300’s first full year on the market,” said Veronica Johns, FCGA President & CEO.

“We expect the arrival of the new 300S to bolster that popularity with a stronger, more overt representation of the ‘Imported from Detroit’ style,” she stated.

The S is on sale now. The new variant takes Chrysler’s 300 model line-up to five and total variants to nine. The cheapest, the 300 Limited, is priced from $43,000 with the same V6 petrol powertrain as the 300S.
