TYRES: HSV opts for Continental
New GEN-F will be fitted with premium tyres from European brand as standardHSV has appointed Continental to supply the tyres for its new GEN-F range, including the 430kW GTS.
All vehicles in the range will be fitted with the supplier's ContiSportContact 5P tyre, measuring 255/35 R20 tyres on the front wheels and 275/35 R20 tyres at the rear.
"After an extensive development and testing program, we have chosen Continental tyres as standard fitment on GTS and, in fact across our entire GEN-F range," said HSV Chief Engineer, Joel Stoddart.
"The new tyres, custom tuned for HSV, deliver exceptional performance in wet and dry conditions. And, our testing around Winton Raceway in Victoria, piloted by HRT driver, Garth Tander, has seen the Continental tyres deliver significant improvements in lap times."
The changing of the guard comes at the expense of Bridgestone, a long-standing supplier to HSV. In the past Bridgestone has worked closely alongside HSV in the choice of tyres best suited to the high-performance rear-drive sedan applications. Continental claims that the tyres chosen for GEN-F have been "specifically designed to meet the ambitious expectations of the luxury and sports vehicle manufacturers, such as HSV."
Perhaps the writing was on the wall for Bridgestone once Continental offered to sponsor the Holden Racing Team last year.
"We feel extremely honoured that HSV has selected our ContiSportContact 5P to feature on its new line-up," said Mitchell Golledge, Marketing Manager for Continental Tyres of Australia.
The tyre brand plans to hold a competition later in the year, with first prize a new Maloo to mark its nascent association with HSV.
