More spy pictures of the McLaren P13 test mule have surfaced, showing the testing of the McLaren P13 in the shell of an extensively wrapped MP4-12C.
First seen back in August in a similar guise, these new pictures from Automedia show the P13 test mule sporting smaller front wheels, reaffirming our suspicions that the P13 will indeed be smaller than the McLaren MP4-12C. Although McLaren have yet to release details on the upcoming P13, a McLaren representative said “In 2015, McLaren will launch the next all-new sportscar, and will take McLaren into a lower pricepoint.”
This “lower pricepoint” should put the Audi R8 and Porsche 911 squarely in the McLaren P13’s sights, meaning a prospective price point of around 140,000 Euros ($210,000AUD).
Performance wise, the P13 is expected to feature a detuned variation of the 12C’s 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8, producing a power figure of around 380kW. To further reduce the cost of development, the P13 is also expected to utilise the same carbonfibre MonoCell found in the 12C and upcoming P1 hypercar. If the baby McLaren can offer up even half the performance of its older brother, the MP4-12C, and some of the over the top styling of the P1, it should make for a cracker of a car.
