Revealed: Datsun Go+ MPV
Budget-focused Datsun brand rolls out the second model in its line-up – a seven-seat mini people-mover derived from the Go hatchbackTwo months ago the reborn Datsun brand unveiled its Go subcompact hatchback, and now the emerging-market-focused brand has revealed an MPV derivative dubbed Go+.
Although it measures a diminutive 3995mm long, 1635mm wide and 1485mm tall, the Go+ offers 5+2 seating capacity. The extra row of seats was facilitated by a 210mm stretch in length vis-à-vis the Go hatchback, even though the vehicle shares the same 2450mm wheelbase.
It also uses the same 1.2-litre petrol engine and five-speed manual gearbox as its sibling, and reliable, low-cost motoring is the primary selling point for the MPV.
Visually, the Go+ is largely as per its hatchback stablemate, with the face featuring the same hexagonal grille and swept-back headlights. The flanks and rear end are standard people-mover fare, with its high roofline and boxy proportions maximising cabin space.
The similarities to the Go extend to the interior, with the driver faced by a three-spoke wheel, large central speedo and smartphone integration in lieu of an AM/FM radio. The cabin is minimalist, to say the least, and this is in keeping with the Go+’s sub 100 million Indonesian rupiah ($9540) price point.
Both Datsun GO and GO+ will be manufactured in Purwakarta, Indonesia, and are due to go on sale there in the first half of next year.
“With the return of the Datsun brand, we are changing mobility,” said Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn. “And we’re ensuring greater access to the pride, independence and opportunities that car ownership provides.”
Nissan says it hopes that the Datsun brand will account for half of its total sales in Indonesia by 2016, but has stated that there are no plans for the brand to come to more established and affluent markets such as Europe and Australia.
