Proton is understood to be planning a new model release in Australia, following the global launch of the company's Suprima S two weeks ago.
The importer has invited local press to attend a briefing to be held in Sydney on Wednesday, September 4. Proton Australia's COO, Kaye Amies, and GM of Sales and Marketing, Billy Falconer, will present information concerning the brand's model line-up and "exciting future."
The Suprima S is expected to be one of the focal points for the briefing. Powered by a turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder developing 103kW and 205Nm and based on the Preve, the hatchback rides on 17-inch alloy wheels and returns a fuel consumption figure of 9.1L/100km in Malaysian domestic specification, according to a report from local website Live Life Drive. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a continuously variable transmission with seven programmed steps.
Standard equipment comprises LED tail lights and DRLs, Hill-Hold Assist, leather upholstery, push-to-start button, shift paddles, cruise control, front/rear parking sensors and a reversing camera. In flagship form the Suprima S offers WiFi internet connectivity and is fitted with a six-speaker audio system with seven-inch touch screen and Bluetooth audio streaming.
