Alfa 4C due first quarter 2014

85 Aussies already signed up for Alfa Romeo's latest sports car
Alfa Romeo’s dynamic new sports car, the 4C, will be launched in Australia during the first quarter of next year.
Veronica Johns, CEO for Fiat Alfa Romeo Australia, was keeping a lid on pricing when she spoke with motoring.com.au earlier in the week, hesitating even to offer a worst-case scenario.
“We really won’t talk pricing until Q1... when we know where it’s at,” she said.
The pricing issue is complicated by the state of flux for the Australian dollar and the Euro, which is the unit of currency Fiat Alfa Romeo use to conduct their transactions with the factory. To an extent, hedging protects the importer from massive currency exchange volatility.
But even with no pricing information to offer prospective buyers, Ms Johns revealed the importer is holding 85 orders for the new car. They’re “serious” orders too, she says, with some customers leaving sums of $10,000 to ensure they get first crack at the 4C.
That’s probably the right way to handle the deal too, because the 4C may be thin on the ground when it arrives. Global production will be limited to somewhere between 3500 and 4000 units a year, due to the complexity of building the car’s carbon-fibre tub.
The first 1000 units built will be a special launch edition, some of which will be headed our way.
