SEMA: Chrysler hot shop teases new concepts

Mopar's mod squad goes bananas at world's biggest aftermarket show, fettling Fiats to Vipers

The annual Specialty Equipment Market Association show – SEMA for short – kicks off November 4 in Las Vegas, and Chrysler's aftermarket outfit, Mopar, has plenty planned.

Although the company is keeping its cards close to its chest, revealing no specifics in regards to names, power outputs or even themes, it has supplied a number of teaser images that provide an insight into the increasing scope of Mopar's operations.

A total of 11 photos hint at what we can expect to see at SEMA, including an extreme version of the already intense 478kW SRT Viper that first broke cover at the 2012 New York motor show.

A scarlet outline of the hotted-up 8.4-litre pushrod V10 has been lined up next to the regular model and, upon closer, inspection reveals a number of changes, including a high-rise rear wing, potentially smaller mirrors and more bonnet venting, the latter hinting that its 478kW output could reach into 500kW territory.

The US company released a more potent SRT Viper GTS, which we reviewed in 2013, but even that model didn't have the high-rise rear wing.

Mopar, which stands for Motor Parts, has also waved its magic spanner over pretty much every brand owned by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, including European models. So while US vehicles such as the Dodge Charger, Challenger and Dart, the Ram 1500 pickup and Chrysler 200 will get the go-fast treatment, the Fiat 500L and 500 Abarth will also get some high-octane love.

There's even a silhouette of the Fiat Ducato van, which we're hoping gets an engine transplant (think Viper V10 engine in an Italian van...). The lack of a pimped-out 300C is a curious decision but Mopar clearly has its hands full.

Of interest to Jeep enthusiasts is the focus on the new budget-priced Jeep Renegade compact SUV, which is expected to go on sale in Australia in late 2015 priced around the low to mid $20K mark. Two different 'painted' teaser images of the Mopar-tuned baby Jeeps have been released, with one showing what appears to be large street-style alloy wheels, hinting at a high performance model. The other has more clearance between the wheel and body, suggesting a more rugged upgrade.

The new Jeep Renegade is scheduled to go on sale in Europe and US in the next couple of months.
