It's not enough that Infiniti will reveal its new mid-size Q60 coupe in concept form at January's Detroit motor show, just three months after the Paris show unveiling of its sleek Q80 Inspiration concept — a car that previews an all-new flagship limousine for the Nissan luxury brand.
Now, Infiniti has revealed the INFINITI CONCEPT Vision Gran Turismo – a virtual supercar that could provide clues to a range-topping two-door hyper-coupe from the Japanese car-maker.
Available for download from today for players of Gran Turismo 6 on the PlayStation 3 video game console, Infiniti says the GT6 'concept' is "a vision of what a high-performance Infiniti could look like in the future".
The video-only supercar is the result of a global Infiniti design competition to "design a pure Infiniti GT car", and the finished 'product' stemmed from hand sketches first created by Infiniti's Beijing-based Chinese design team.
Infiniti says the INFINITI CONCEPT Vision Gran Turismo is not just a figment of its imagination, since the sketches were then "refined digitally, refined again by hand sculpting and then returned to digital for final refinement".
"This project went much further than being a mere design exercise," says the car-maker. "It included thorough examinations and calculations of technical features such as aerodynamics and engine performance.
"The front mid-ship/transaxle powertrain enables the finely distributed 45/55 front/rear weight balance that fills users with the joy of driving by actively drifting the rear. As for aerodynamics, the under-floor airflow control, front and back diffusers, and uniquely shaped rear spoiler enable this car to demonstrate high performance without compromising the impact of the body design."
Back in the real world, Infiniti's next new showroom model will be a production version of the Q60 coupe concept next year, followed by the all-new Q30 small hatch that could be fast-tracked here by the end of 2015, and the closely related QX30 compact crossover due in 2016.
