Jaguar has revealed the production version of its all-new XE medium sedan for the first time, suggesting its first direct rival for the Mercedes-Benz C-Class in five years will be available in up to four model variants.
Revealed in this single front-end shot featuring singer Emeli Sandé, who will join other British celebrities in the car's 'Feel XE' promotional push in the lead-up to its London reveal on September 8, the production XE appears identical to the vehicle revealed in March.
The only exception is the appearance of Jaguar's S badge on the front-engined, rear-wheel drive sedan's honeycomb grille, which is likely to be reserved for versions powered by the same 250kW/450Nm 3.0-litre supercharged V6 fitted across the rest of the Jaguar range.
However, an even hotter XE powered by a version of the 280kW/460Nm V6 seen in the F-TYPE S sports car is expected to form the basis of Jaguar's answer to the Benz C 63 AMG and BMW M3, the XE SVR – the nameplate to be worn by all new high-performance Jaguar Land Rover models developed by JLR's Special Vehicle Operations division.
Jaguar has confirmed that entry-level XEs will be powered by a new family of 2.0-litre 'Ingenium' four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, the most frugal of which will consume only around 3.0L/100km and emit less than 100g/km of CO2.
It has also claimed the XE will delivery class-leading dynamics, refinement and technology, thanks in part to a bodyshell that comprises 75 per cent aluminium.
Jaguar has also released a new ride and handling video as part of the second of four technology previews for its vital new premium mid-sizer contender, which makes its world public debut at the Paris motor show on October 2.
Expect the XE to become Jaguar Australia's top-selling model after it goes on sale here from mid-2015, priced from under $60,000.
