Chrysler Jeep is advising owners of the Jeep Grand Cherokee built between 2011 and 2014 to bring their vehicles along to an authorised Jeep service dealer for an unusual fault that could lead to the car catching fire.
According to the importer wiring for the vanity light in the sunvisor may be exposed if the vehicle has been improperly serviced or repaired. The exposed wiring may cause a short circuit that could in turn lead to a fire on board.
The importer is running a Voluntary Safety Recall as part of a broader global campaign and asks owners to have their Grand Cherokee inspected. Chrysler dealers will repair any defective wiring found and install a spacer in the sun visor, to re-route the wiring as a safety measure.
Over 31,000 vehicles are believed to be affected by the recall.
