US car-maker Dodge is promoting its latest V8 weapon, the 2015 Challenger SRT, in an unusual manner, by releasing a free ringtone that sounds, well, like a blown V8 engine.
Although the new car won't be sold in Australia, at least not until the next-generation arrives later in the decade, fans can get a taste of the new model in an aural sense, via a free ringtone that emulates the Hellcat engine's gravelly acoustic – complete with spooling-up supercharger.
The ringtone is available for Android, Blackberry and Apple devices at www.drivesrt.com/hellcatringtone.
The Challenger SRT is the most powerful Dodge ever deployed, propelled by a supercharged HEMI 6.2-litre V8 that belts out a face-rippling 527kW, or more than 700 horsepower, and no less than 881Nm of peak torque.
Tim Kuniskis, president and CEO of the Dodge and SRT Brands, said: "When you name an engine 'Hellcat' it had better have the performance to back it up and a sound that wakes up the devil.
"The Hellcat’s signature sound is the unholy union of supercharger whine and 5.5 inches of unrestricted exhaust," declared Kuniskis.
Dodge is owned by Chrysler, the same company that sells the 300 SRT in Australia. That car is powered by a less-potent 347kW/631Nm naturally aspirated version of the 6.2-litre HEMI V8.
