Lowndes Commodore unleashed

Limited-edition Commodore SS Redline now available from $57,990

Better get in quick if you want to own the a Craig Lowndes limited-edition Commodore — 120 of the 233 to be built this year have already been pre-sold.

Priced at $57,990 (manual) and $60,190 (auto) plus on-road costs, the Lowdnes special costs $5500 more than the MY15 Commodore SS V Redline on which it's based.

But you do get stand-out features for your extra dollars. Chassis tweaks include larger 20-inch black multi-spoke alloy wheels (8.5-inch front, 9.0-inch rear) with 245-section front and, for the first time on a Holden, 275-section rear Bridgestone tyres. Returned rear suspension bushes and four-piston Brembo rear brake callipers are also standard.

These changes are in addition to cosmetic upgrades including specific bonnet and bodyside decals, rear badging, an embroidered Craig Lowndes signature on the dashboard, an individual build plate under the bonnet and black roof, grille, window surrounds and mirror scalps.

Of course, the Lowndes special also comes with all the MY15 upgrades for the standard SS V Redline, including steering wheel paddle shifters for automatic versions, revised electric power steering tune, dynamic guidelines for the reversing camera, a new gloss-black rear valance and new Jet Black interior highlights.

Designed to celebrate Lowndes' 20-year touring car racing career (including six years with Ford between 2001-06), the limited-edition Commodore also comes with "money can't buy" extras like a framed certificate of authenticity, a Red Bull Racing private function and tour hosted by Lowndes, and two general admission tickets and a Red Bull Racing pit tour at customers' local V8 Supercars round in 2015.

“I’ve had a lot of success on the racetrack behind the wheel of Commodores and to celebrate that with this special road-going version is a great privilege. I know fans and customers all Australia are going to love it,” said Lowndes.

“This Special Edition Commodore is the pinnacle of Holden performance and to have my name on it is a true honour. With Brembo brakes front and rear, 20-inch wheels, paddle-shifters and the unique styling treatments, this car is simply outstanding to drive and look at. I love it.”

Production of the Craig Lowndes SS V Special Edition Commodore, which is only available in Red Hot or Heron White, begins next week.

“After 20 years of Craig Lowndes breaking records and claiming victories – and with so many of those moments coming behind the wheel of a Commodore – it’s only fitting that Holden honours that relationship with the Craig Lowndes SS V Special Edition Commodore,” said GM Holden Director of Sales Peter Keley.

“This race-inspired Craig Lowndes SS V Special Edition Commodore has been created by our talented Holden engineers and designers with Craig’s input and approval. It is a rolling testament to a man whose success and character has cemented his name into Australian Motorsport history," he Holden sales boss said.
