Motorclassica for 2014 was supposed to be a Mustang-themed show, but clearly fans of the Maserati marque didn't receive the memo. Over 20 classic Maseratis will go on display at Melbourne's Royal Exhibition Building for Motorclassica, held on the weekend of October 24 to 26. And the brand's importer, European Automotive Imports, will also bring along the new Quattroporte and Ghibli.
Motorclassica this year falls during the Italian marque's centenary celebrations, and Maserati is also enjoying a bumper year in Australia, with local sales boosted considerably by the new Quattroporte and the Ghibli. According to the distributor, Maserati sales have tripled over the past 12 months.
"Melbourne and Motorclassica is the ideal place to celebrate Maserati's centenary and its remarkable growth this year," says Glen Sealey, General Manager of Maserati in Australia.
"Melbourne and, specifically, Albert Park first brought Maserati to the wider attention of Australians and made it a household name with motoring racing legends such as Stirling Moss, Stan Jones, Reg Hunt and Bob Jane. Melbourne will also take Maserati into a new century with the opening of a second Maserati dealership in November, illustrating the strength of the growth ahead of Maserati's second century."
Lotus, the renowned British sports car manufacturer, will also turn up for Motorclassica. In Australia the brand is distributed by European Automotive Imports, just like Maserati. For the classic car event Lotus will be represented by the Elise, supercharged Elise S and Exige S.
