Brabus is the go-to party for Benz fanciers who reckon the offerings from Mercedes-AMG are a bit weak at the knees.
Its latest vision – enhancement kits and parts for the new W205 C-Class Mercedes – is officially launched. And if these pictures are an accurate depiction, Brabus has really captured the essence of the new C-Class in a subtle but dramatic package.
Brabus not only offers a range of parts to hone the looks of the C-Class, the company can also fettle the drivetrain and underpinnings. Even the lowliest C 180 can be the subject of a Brabus makeover, for higher outputs, larger wheels (up to 20-inch diameter), uprated suspension components, sports exhaust systems and prestige interior fixtures.
Buyers are free to choose from a selection of tyres supplied by Continental, Pirelli and Yokohama, and respectively measuring up to 225/35 ZR20 and 255/30 ZR20 for the front 8.5Jx20 and rear 9.5Jx20 wheels. Sports springs are allied with Bilstein dampers that are calibrated to match the wheel and tyre combinations. Vehicles riding on factory-fit Airmatic suspension gain a Brabus control module to lower the ride height.
Brabus claims that its engine tuning program for Mercedes-Benz models is the most extensive. Currently the company is working on an upgrade kit for C-Class diesel variants – due soon – and has already completed a kit for four-cylinder petrol engines. According to the company its PowerXtra B18.2 kit for the C 180 yields an extra 15kW for peak power of 130kW. Torque is lifted too, from 250 to 300Nm, and the tuned C 180 will knock over 0-100km/h in 8.4 seconds. It's no fire-breathing monster, but not bad for a four-cylinder engine in a large sedan.
The kit for the C 200 – PowerXtra B20.2 – lifts power by 30kW and increases torque by 30Nm for maximums of 165kW and 330Nm. Acceleration is improved as a consequence and the 0-100km/h time is 7.0 seconds.
