C4 Picasso to go high-tech

New French small car to be first in class with a standard 360-degree camera

Citroen's new five-seat C4 Picasso will be the first car in its segment to come standard with a 360-degree 'bird's-eye' camera when it goes on sale in February.

That's because with a 55mm shorter wheelbase and a 172mm shorter and 24mm lower body than the seven-seat Grand C4 Picasso launched here in February, Citroen says the five-seat C4 Picasso is more of a hatchback than a people-mover.

Priced from under $40,000, the smaller Picasso will be positioned above the small C4 hatch, which is currently priced from $20,990 in Australia's largest sales segment and will be replaced by a facelifted model next year and the Grand C4 Picasso (from $43,990) in the expanding people-mover class.

Citroen claims its standard 360-degree camera will be a first in both the under $40,000 and over $40,000 small-car segments, allowing drivers to sight the entire exterior of the vehicle when manoeuvring in tight spaces, reversing, or driving out of restrictive driveways and garages.

It says the first current-generation five-seat C4 Picasso to be offered in Australia will be available with "significant safety specification", as well as the brand's six-year warranty, capped-price servicing and roadside assistance plan.

Other advanced driver aids to be fitted as standard across the range include a reversing camera, blind-spot monitor, self-parking function, parking sensors, automatic headlights and wipers, six airbags and electronic stability/traction control.

An optional Drive Assist Package will also be available, comprising lane departure warning (with seat-belt vibration alert), active cruise control and active seat-belts.

“The C4 Picasso is ideally suited to families, so the focus on safety is non-negotiable for us,” said Citroën Australia general manager, John Startari.

“Being the first vehicle to offer innovative safety solutions in this segment demonstrates our commitment to ensuring Citroën maintains its strong stance on safety and innovation.

“The Picasso nameplate is establishing itself as one of the most awarded family vehicles in Australia for design, value, drive experience and after-sales support, and the C4 Picasso will continue that trend,” says Startari.
