V12 Vantage S Roadster last of the line

Aston Martin's latest 421kW drop-top to offer 'fun in abundance'
Ahead of what is promised to be a wave of new models comes Aston Martin's sign-off model for the current Vantage range.
Sharing underpinnings with last year's coupe of the same name, the roadster version of the V12-powered Vantage 'S' will drive wind through your hair all the way up to 323km/h.
Power comes from the British performance marque's acclaimed 6.0-litre AM28 mill, tuned to deliver 421kW and 620Nm – 510Nm of which is available from just 1000rpm – with the help of what Aston Martin says is a state-of-the-art Bosch engine management system.
The results? A 0-100km/h time of just 4.1 seconds (0.2sec slower than the Coupe) and the promise of a driving experience its maker says is the most exciting it has yet produced.
"The V12 Vantage S Roadster is the mechanical embodiment of our company's exceptional spirit," said Aston Martin Director of Design, Marek Reichman.
"Beautiful, powerful and spirited it is as spectacular to listen to as it is to look at. The new roadster is truly a treat for the senses with, underlying all this, the capacity to deliver one of the most dynamic, exciting and stirring driving experiences in our current range.
"I'm sure the V12 Vantage S Roadster will appeal to luxury sports car enthusiasts worldwide who want to add a truly exceptional new model to their garage."
The V12 Vantage S Roadster relays its power to the rear wheels via a seven-speed automated manual transaxle, replacing the six-speed manual gearbox offered previously. Three-stage adaptive dampers help keep rubber in contact with the road, while stopping duties are handled care of "specially created" carbon ceramic discs all round.
Also special is a new lightweight exhaust derived from the Aston Martin One-77, and a quicker ZF-sourced Servotronic power steering system, which is also adjustable through two modes.
"The new V12 Vantage S Roadster not only looks the part, but has been engineered and built to showcase the ethos of Aston Martin: power, beauty and soul," Reichman added.
"We believe that it is a truly exceptional sports car, with the capacity to set pulses racing just by its sound alone. The authentic appeal of its style, performance, quality and craftsmanship ensure it stands head and shoulders above others in its sector and delivers that most precious of experiences – fun – in abundance!"
Locally, the Vantage range is currently topped by the V12 Coupe which retails from $389,000 (plus on-road costs). motoring.com.au understands that limited numbers of the V12 Vantage S Roadster are to be made available locally, from early next year, with a price tag of $418,525, not including the on-road costs.
