Daimler V8 to be auctioned for charity
Benevolent classic car owner will gift funds from sale at auction to Kids Under Cover Donate Your Car programmeIt must have been an agonising decision, but Norman Webster got his priorities right when he decided to donate to charity the money from his 1964 Daimler V8 when it goes to auction on April 1.
The burgundy Daimler sedan was originally bought restored and treated to a few little niceties until Norman, who is 88, had a heart attack and decided he didn't need the excitement of the car any more.
Norman, who lives in the Sydney suburb of Gordon, talked it through with his family before deciding he would donate the funds from auctioning the car to the Kids Under Cover Donate Your Car programme, a charity that raises funds to prevent youth homelessness.
According to auctioneers Manheim, the Daimler should bring between $15,000 and $20,000 when it goes under the hammer on April 1 in Sydney.
The Donate Your Car programme was launched by Kids Under Cover in 2006 and has so far raised in excess of $1,000,000 through the auction of more than 2800 donated vehicles around the country.
Kids Under Cover is a registered not for profit organisation that works to prevent youth homelessness.
Since 1989 it has supported more than 2,800 young people through the provision of services including the studio programme, which constructs accommodation in the back yard of the family or carer's home, a scholarship programme that covers education expenses, and a mentoring programme in which positive role models connect with young people for guidance, support and encouragement.
