Morgan lifts prices for Aussie market

Currency slump forces importer's hand
The distributor for Morgan sports cars is the first to acknowledge the recent weakening of the Australian dollar by increasing prices of its classic range.
According to Chris Van Wyk of Morgan Cars Australia: "After a long period of price stability, the declining value of the Australian Dollar does now impose the need for some price increases across the Morgan range."
"The only exception is the price of the Morgan Aero SuperSports, which enjoys a reduction in price."
Morgan's 2014 list prices are as follows, with the adjustment in brackets:
4/4 - $79,990 (+$7390/9.2%)
Plus 4 - $94,990 (+$5080/5.3%)
Roadster - $133,990 (+$4090/3.1%)
Plus 8 - $228,990 (+11,090/4.8%)
Specifications are unchanged, with the 4.4 powered by a 1.6-litre Ford four-cylinder, developing 82kW/131Nm and driving through a five-speed manual transmission. The Plus 4 has a 2.0-litre Ford engine, good for 106kW and 187Nm, also mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Ford also supplies the 3.7-litre V6 in the Roadster, coupled to a six-speed manual and producing 209kW/352Nm. BMW's 4.8-litre V8 resides under the bonnet of the Plus 8, generating 270kW and 490Nm, piped through to the rear wheels by means of either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic.
The Aero – available in Coupe or Targa-roofed Super Sports forms – has been reduced in price considerably, with the Super Sports reduced by over $35,000 to $339,990. In contrast, the Coupe is priced at $274,990. Both cars feature the same BMW V8, mustering the same output, as the Plus 8, and the Aero in either form is offered with the choice of six-speed manual or automatic.
Morgan is also expected to receive ADR compliance for its unique 3 Wheeler in March (2014). The model, which is styled on the 1939 Morgan Super Sports, has been on sale in the UK since 2011 and is powered by an S&S 1983cc vee-twin mounted forward of the body. There's no word yet on pricing but we expect it to be circa $80,000.
