Warning: Do not read this to owners of classic MGs.
All sorts of health complications may result: myocardial infarction, apoplexy... at the very least a sudden, catastrophic inhalation of sherry.
For those who hold the MG brand dear to the heart, the news that the now Chinese-owned brand plans to bring out an SUV wearing the storied badge is only made worse by speculation from our favourite sons, the spy photographers at Automedia, that the MG SUV will be based on the Ssangyong Korando's platform.
Camped out in the snowdrifts of Scandinavia, the Automedia spy snappers recently caught the MG CS in action, as it underwent testing. This car is the production model based on the concept car first shown at the Shanghai motor show back in April last year. While the concept car was claimed to be based on the company's own MG5 model, the production version is sure to be built on the Korando's platform, according to Chinese media.
Somehow word has slipped out that the MG CS boasts a wheelbase measuring 2650mm, which is the same as for the Korando, thus corroborating the rumour. When it arrives in global markets – in the latter half of 2015 – the CS will offer two engines. The 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine is also slated for the MG5 Turbo, and the 2.0-litre turbo is reportedly a forced-induction version of the 2.0-litre engine from the Korando.
