We're well acquainted with Renault's lively Clio RS and Megane RS in our market, but Euro buyers – especially those with smaller budgets and needs – also have the opportunity to buy the pint-sized Twingo RS.
These Automedia spy pics provide the first peek of a RenaultSport-tweaked version of the third-generation Twingo, and the vehicle in question seems proof that sometimes good things do indeed come in tiny packages.
Look carefully and you'll pick up on the larger-diameter rear wheels and dual-exhaust system sported by this prototype, pointing to its added mumbo.
Propulsion for the rear-engined, rear-drive Twingo RS is likely to be provided by essentially the same 900cc three-cylinder turbo engine used by the Brabus version of the Smart ForTwo.
It's believed this unit will eke out between 85 and 100kW in the Renault, which should be sufficient to make the Twingo RS a budget-priced entertainer.
Befitting its go-faster status, the little Renault will be festooned with new front and rear spoilers, a unique front grille, modified bumpers and smoked taillights.
The interior will carry over the racy theme with sports seats and tarted-up instrumentation and switchgear.
However, aficionados of manual gearboxes may be disappointed to learn that the Twingo RS is likely to be offered solely with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
As is the case with all RenaultSport offerings, the Twingo RS should be a lively handler, thanks to lowered sports suspension and beefier brakes to offset its added grunt.
It may also receive tweaks to the steering and electronic chassis-control systems to make it a sharper driving tool.
Although yet to be confirmed, it's possible the Twingo RS will debut at the Geneva motor show next March.
