Toyota announces pricing for Yaris

Three-door model dropped; price increases for mid- and high range models reflect added kit
Toyota's facelifted Yaris is in Australia, bearing distinctive new looks to distinguish it from the superseded model.
The new model is introduced in a three-tier range that is now limited to five-door variants only, with new names for the levels of trim. At entry level is the Yaris Ascent, priced from $15,690, in the mid-range is the Yaris SX at $17,790, and topping the range in auto-only form is the Yaris ZR at $22,690.
Toyota claims that while the mid and high-range variants are more expensive – $400 more for Yaris SX and $1300 more for Yaris ZR – the new cars more than offset the price increases with new features. And although the Yaris Ascent has not risen in price against the Yaris YR it replaces, it gains added equipment Toyota claims to be worth $2000.
All models now boast a reversing camera, cruise control, 15-inch wheels (steel for Yaris Ascent) and a 6.1-inch infotainment touch screen at no extra cost. Additionally, all models come equipped as standard with reach-adjustable steering, two extra audio speakers (taking the total to six), a phone button on the steering wheel and automatic emergency hazard lights come. Yaris SX also scores fog lights, rear/side privacy glass and new wheel covers, while Yaris ZR picks up auto-levelling LED headlights, rear spoiler/diffuser, side skirts and enhanced connectivity (Toyota Link) in the form of smartphone-supported apps to retrieve destinations, fuel, weather details and other information as well as roadside and other assistance.
Toyota Link supports voice control and complements Bluetooth connectivity with music streaming and satellite navigation. Other standard features for the Yaris ZR comprise climate control and sports front seats with a bespoke pattern.
Only the base-grade Yaris Ascent is powered by a 1.3-litre engine; the other two grades move up to a 1.5-litre powerplant. Both Ascent and SX variants can be ordered with either the standard five-speed manual or optional four-speed automatic. The 15-inch steel wheels fitted to the Yaris Ascent are one inch larger in diameter than the wheels fitted to the superseded Yaris YR.
Despite being a facelift, the Yaris sports a stiffer body shell, revised suspension calibration and reduced NVH properties. The enhanced stiffness and lower NVH are the result of added spot welds on the production line. A new louvre at the cowl and changes to sound-insulating materials have also dampened noise entering the cabin.
Three new colours have been added to the palette (comprising nine colours altogether): Vivid Yellow, Aura Blue and Tidal Blue.
Toyota has given the Yaris interior a lift, with new trim materials for the dash and instrument binnacle, and new brightwork for the air vents and door switches. The glovebox has been restyled and enlarged,
"The latest update to Yaris hatch will broaden its appeal, making it even more compelling as a stylish, affordable and economical car that promises to deliver a lot of fun to its owners," said Toyota Australia executive director sales and marketing, Tony Cramb.
"Standard reversing camera, cruise control and seven airbags emphasise the car's inherent safety. Clever features such as innovative storage spaces, a large touch-screen audio display and available connected mobility make the new-look Yaris an even smarter choice for customers."
