German car-maker Audi has increased the base prices of its upgraded A1 and Q3 by a respective $400 and $600 ahead of the release of both 2015 model ranges in June.
As part of the midlife makeover of Audi's smallest passenger car and SUV, a few models have also been culled from both vehicle ranges in Australia, but Audi says more performance, more efficiency and improved design offset the price increases.
The exterior design of the 2015 Q3, has been updated with stronger, bolder lines, particularly at the front via more brightwork around its restyled grille. New-look LED brake lights are also in evidence.
The range has been consolidated from five to four variants, beginning with the $42,900 2WD 1.4-litre turbo that belts out 110kW. Q3 quattro AWD models start at $47,900, for the 110kW turbo-diesel model. All models are fitted standard with automatic transmissions and full pricing (plus on-road costs) is as follows:
Q3 1.4T (110kW) -- $42,900
Q3 quattro 2.0T (132kW) -- $52,300
Q3 quattro 2.0TDI (110kW) -- $47,900
Q3 quattro 2.0TDI (135kW) -- $56,900
The 2015 A1 gets a similarly mild exterior overhaul including redesigned headlight and brake light clusters.
New to the Audi A1 range is a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol three-cylinder engine, which is more powerful and efficient than the 1.2-litre unit it replaces. It generates 70kW of power (up 7kW) but consumes just 4.7L/100km on the combined cycle – almost half a litre per kilometre less.
The entry-level A1 fitted with the 1.0-litre mill and a five-speed manual gearbox is priced at $26,900, which is up $500 on the previous 1.2-litre base model. The seven-speed auto adds $1350. Full pricing is as follows:
A1 1.0T -- $26,900
A1 1.0T -- $28,250
A1 Sport 1.4T -- $27,750
A1 Sport 1.4T -- $30,100
A1 S Line 1.8T -- $39,900
The 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine has been updated for 2015, now banging out 92kW, while the 1.8-litre turbo-petrol now offers a healthy 141kW.
