There's plenty for car enthusiasts to do at this year's 'Cooly Rocks On' festival, event organisers claim.
The annual event, which drew over 100,000 visitors to the border towns of Coolangatta and Tweed Heads last year, commenced officially from Friday (yesterday), but runs through to June 8.
On the agenda for the festival, which brings together rock and roll fans of the 1950s and 60s, is Shannons' Show 'n' Shine – an event featuring 1300 custom and classic cars – previewed over this weekend ahead of the main event next weekend, June 6-7.
For the price of $5 online or $7 at the door, visitors can sit in on 'Garage Torque', which will star Jim Richards, who needs no introduction, US hot-rod builder Chad Adams and fellow hot-rodder Dion Willcox.
From 9:30am Saturday, June 6, the Cooly Rocks On street parade will take place, involving what the organisers expect to be over two kilometres of cars and motorbikes in procession. Over the course of the week from Sunday (tomorrow) through to June 7, visitors can witness classic car runs and daytime cruises.
As a break from the car culture component of Cooly Rocks On, there'll be a dog show, music and a glamour pageant. For more information, go to the event website www.coolyrockson.com.
