Rolls-Royce has confirmed its new Wraith-based convertible will be called the Dawn when it goes on sale in the first quarter of next year.
The new name, revealed by CEO Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes, breaks the recent trend of Rolls-Royce calling its convertible models ‘Drophead.’
Resurrecting the Dawn name from the Silver Dawn made between 1950 and 1954.
Mueller-Oetvoes claims the name represents “an awakening, and opening up of one's senses and a burst of sunshine".
When it joins the Rolls-Royce range the Dawn will be the sixth car the British car-maker manufactures at its Crewe HQ.
Although no details of the new model have been revealed, power is expected to come from the same 6.6-litre V12 that propels the 465kW/800Nm Wraith.
When it eventually reaches us some time towards the end of 2016 the new Dawn is expected to cost $650,000.
