FRANKFURT MOTOR SHOW: Five cars we want to drive today

From wild concepts to production cars, these are the machines we can't get enough of

The 2015 Frankfurt motor show saw an inordinate amount of SUVs on show, reflecting the global appetite for these high-riding wagons. There were a few of these ubiquitous beasts that raised eyebrows – for the right reasons – but enthusiasts were well catered for too, with a number of low-slung, ultra-wide weapons.

If you could drive any of these vehicles, right here, right now, which would ones would you pick – a high-tech SUV or a red-blooded sports car? Have your say in the comments below, but before then here are the cars from the 2015 Frankfurt motor show that entice us to get behind the wheel.

This colossal concept car is powered by a 16-cylinder quad turbo engine and can be expected to pump out 1000kW-plus through its all-wheel drive system. Should be a lark! Lighter, more agile and of course more aerodynamic, this is a car we really want to drive – not in the Gran Turismo 6 videogame though – in the flesh! How about at Bathurst while we're in fantasy land?!

We cannot get our hands on this car soon enough... It looks tough but stylish, it sounds amazing thanks to its Ferrari-developed 2.9-litre turbo-petrol V6 and it should go like sh*t off a shovel thanks to a rip-snorting 380kW and 600Nm. The rear-drive Italian rips to 100km/h in 3.9 seconds and is said to carve its way around the Nurburgring in just 7:39 – the quickest lap for a sedan yet. Fair dinkum, this one is sizzling.

Move over Ariel Atom, this 400kg, 158kW banzai single-seater racer from Honda looks like mad fun. While the Bugatti is also about speed, this one's about rapid response, and who wouldn't want to drive a tiny open-wheeler powered by a bonkers motorcycle engine? The high-revving MotoGP engine pumps out almost 160kW at an eye-watering 13,000rpm, making this 1.0-litre V4 a track-day special that invigorates the senses.

Okay before you send in the hate mail, hear us out! Firstly, the new Tiguan looks great, and secondly, this 160kW plug-in hybrid version is shaping up to be a capable machine. Imagine slicing and dicing twisty coastal roads with its sporty, adaptive suspension one weekend, then tackling off-road trails the next, while cruising to work during the week on the whiff of an oily rag? We want to drive it, to find out if it's the real deal.

Not the most original name we've ever seen, but Benz' shape-shifting concept car would certainly turn a few heads cruising along the freeway – and with four doors you can take the whole family along for the ride. It gets active aerodynamics with actuating front louvres and extendable tail, and features an interior that looks like it was commissioned by a Bond villain

Honourable mentions
The Porsche Mission E just missed out on this list, as did two Italian drop-tops that we would love to drive right now, the Ferrari 488 Spider and Lamborghini Huracan.

The turbocharged Audi S4 has upped the ante and any car that can do a loop-de-loop and pull 6.5g like the new Jaguar F-PACE requires a drive, post-haste.

Check out all the weird, wacky and glamourous vehicles from the 2015 Frankfurt motor show & and vote for your 'must-drive-now' car in the comments below.
