Aussies snap up million-dollar Lamborghini

Locals line up for Lambo's fastest production car yet, despite no carpets, no sat-nav and $900K pricetag

Italian exotic car specialist Lamborghini unveiled its latest animal at the 2015 Geneva motor show, the Aventador LP750 4 Superveloce, or SV for short. Lighter, more powerful and with an aggressive new style that is guaranteed to turn heads (and possibly hearts), the new model has been pegged at $882,650 for the Australian market.

Add on-road costs and you're not going to get much change from a million bucks. But that hasn't stopped a number of well-heeled Aussies from taking the plunge, motoring.com.au has learned.

Andrea Baldi, General Manager of Automobili Laborghini Asia Pacific, said "We have already orders in Australia," for the company's fastest ever production car.

"There were orders before we announced [the car in Geneva], because they [were] assuming that we would do an SV model," shrugged Baldi.

He wouldn't be drawn on how many of the Aventador SV variants will be coming to Australia, but he did say the new model is already "very successful" and the power of the Lamborghini brand is such that buyers are snapping up cars sight unseen.

"Next year's production is almost accounted for," he noted of the SV.

And if you're lucky, you might spot Lamborghini's new monster in Australia from later in the year.

"Australian customers will get [the SV] before year's end."

The new Lamborghini Aventador SV is the company's fastest production car to date, pumping out 552kW and 690Nm from its 6.5-litre V12 for a top speed of more 350km/h. It's also lighter by 50kg, tipping the scales at 1525kg, thanks to extensive use of lightweight materials.

Revealed four years after the regular $761,500 Aventador made its debut at the same Swiss motor show, the new model launches with the ferocity of a jet fighter, reaching 100km/h in 2.8 seconds, 200km/h in 8.6 seconds and then 300km/h in 24 seconds.

The fast Italian will be produced in right- and left-hand drive at the company's sole production plant in Sant'Agata, Italy, from mid-year. For comparison, it sells in Europe from €327,190 (before taxes), which is about $462,000 last time we checked.

Made with enough carbon-fibre to make an F1 race car designer jealous, the Lamborghini Aventador SV also features carbon-ceramic brakes to help decelerate – but if you want creature comforts look elsewhere. The SV has a stripped-out interior, with carpets, infotainment systems and even acoustic insulation binned.

Yep, this one will make your eardrums bleed.

Despite the huge price and lack of convenience features, Baldi observes that Australians have a strong appetite for exclusive high-performance machinery.

"We see big potential in Australia for extreme models like Superveloce."
