Following confirmation Rolls-Royce will build an SUV, the famous British marque has announced its super 4x4 will be codenamed Cullinanv.
Named after the largest diamond ever found, that’s now mounted on the Queen’s sceptre as part of the Crown Jewels, it’s not known if the production version of the SUV will be called the Cullinan.
On sale in 2017, the strange-sounding name follows in the tyre tracks of fellow British luxury car-maker, Bentley, which has decided to call its SUV the Bentayga.
Likely to be the world’s most expensive SUV, the Cullinan could be priced anywhere between $500,000 and $1,000,000.
It’s also thought that the new Rolls-Royce SUV will dwarf its Bentley rival and be built on the Phantom’s long-wheelbase aluminium spaceframe architecture.
Power is expected to come from a heavily revised 6.8-litre V12 from the Rolls-Royce flagship Phantom.
