BMW has crafted an eight-minute video outlining the impressive array of technology to be available in its new 7 Series.
The sixth-generation 7 Series – which will be launched in New York next month (September) – features a number of segment firsts. It will be able to park and 'unpark' itself remotely via the key, and drive itself at speeds up to 210km/h. BMW says that in this way the 7 Series takes the brand one step closer to fully autonomous driving, which is a good thing when you consider how luxurious the rear seat is.
Designed with Sheikhs and CEOs in mind, the Executive Lounge (BMW's name for the back seat) offers tablet-controlled massage, infotainment, lighting and air-conditioning controls. It also operates a stunning panoramic sunroof known as Sky Lounge, which can change through six colours and 15 different patterns, each corresponding to a stunning ambient lighting effect.
The headlights don't miss out on the action either. Laser light technology doubles the distance of existing LED headlights to 600m. The headlights are smart enough to adapt the beam of light around oncoming traffic, and can even see around corners.
The 7 Series' part carbon-fibre body also plays home to a range of driver focussed technologies including gesture control over the infotainment system, scented air-conditioning and an impressive self-levelling suspension system. BMW says the car should stay almost perfectly horizontal – even in hard cornering – while the pitching motion associated with acceleration and braking is also virtually eliminated.
motoring.com.au will be attending the international launch of the new 7 Series in a few weeks. But if you can't wait that long, check out the video below.
