HSV announces limited-edition ClubSport R8
Just 100 units of special ClubSport R8 will be built to commemorate 25th anniversaryHSV is celebrating 25 years of the ClubSport nameplate with a new R8 model featuring spiced-up looks.
Priced at $73,290, just like the standard R8, the 25th Anniversary ClubSport R8 is identified by its 20-inch SV Rapier forged-alloy wheels finished in gloss black. At the rear the limited-edition model features a Hyperflow Performance spoiler and quad exhaust outlets finished in shadow chrome. 'Pitch black' accents feature prominently on quarter panel vents, mirror shells and badging on the doors, bonnet and boot lid.
These items are in addition to the R8's standard specification, which includes AP Racing forged 4-piston brake calipers and HSV Performance seats in Onyx. The standard R8 also comes equipped with HSV's Enhanced Driver Interface (EDI) and Driver Preference Dial.
Each unit of the 25th anniversary edition model is uniquely numbered and built with exclusive sill plates, an ID plate and EDI start-up screen. The car will be available with the option of either manual or automatic transmission. Colours available will be limited to four: Heron, Phantom, Sting and Nitrate. HSV will commence building the 25th Anniversary Edition this month. Production will be limited to 100 units for Australia and eight more for New Zealand.
"ClubSport is a much revered nameplate in the HSV line-up", said HSV's Chief of Design & Styling, Julian Quincey.
"The styling enhancements we've introduced pay homage to its racing heritage and, at the same time, give the vehicle added street presence and attitude."
The ClubSport nameplate was first applied to one of HSV's models during the VN Commodore era in 1990. At the time the VN ClubSport was powered by the 5.0-litre 'Aussie' V8 with cast-iron construction. The engine was rated at 180kW and 400Nm – a far cry from today's R8 model with its all-alloy LS3 V8 developing 340kW from 6.2 litres.
